Honorable President of the DPM; Deputy Chair of the DPM Faction in the RM Parliament

The Honorable President of the DPM is a political person respected by his colleagues, but also by the opponents. He gathers around him valuable people whom he inspires and advises. He always kept aside from scandals and called for stability.

He was born on February 10, 1952 in Kargapolie locality from Kurgan region, where in 1949 his parents were deported. He graduated from the Journalistic Faculty of the State University from Minsk, Belarus, launching himself as journalists at the State Committee for Radio and Television. Subsequently he worked within a number of media outlets from Moscow and Bucharest and in 1993 he started his diplomatic career as head of the Political Department under the RM Embassy in the Russian Federation.

In parallel he launched his political career, becoming in 1994 MP in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and Chai of the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Policy. Being MP in four parliamentary legislatures, holding important positions over the years, among which President and Deputy President of the Parliament, founder and president of the Social-Political Movement “For a Democratic and Prosperous Moldova”, Chair of the Delegation of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), President of the Democratic Party of Moldova, leader of the Democratic Party faction.

He was awarded the Order of the Republic and the French Order of Merit.

He is married, has two children.
