The Democratic Party of Moldova condemns the recent attacks launched against it by the PSRM-ACUM government
The Democratic Party of Moldova condemns the recent attacks launched against it by the PSRM-ACUM government, this time through the General Prosecutor’s Office, subjected under the political control of the current power. The absolutely illegal decision of the General Prosecutor’s Office to initiate a criminal file on the alleged coup d’état is a perfect example of harassment of the Democrats and the goal of the new power to strike in the political pluralism, by outlawing the PDM.

A proof that the decision of the General Prosecutor’s Office is a political one, despite the previous decision of this institution, is also represented by the today’s statement of the PPDA leader, Andrei Nastase, who said that his insistence upon this case gave results and a criminal file was issues, one that the Democratic Party considers exclusively politic. Andrei Nastase held a press briefing on this subject, the invitation to the press being sent with only half an hour before the General Prosecutor’s Office published its press release about the initiation of the case. The entire society witnesses a flagrant violation of the rule of law, when politicians who are in power make announcements about criminal cases that will be initiated by the prosecutors.

We stress that, out of blind desire for revenge, the PSRM-ACUM government intends to persecute the Democrats until the outlawing of the PDM, thus stopping the main political formation from participating to the forthcoming local elections and snap parliamentary elections to be held for the vacant constituencies. The new government, which failed in the social, economic and humanitarian areas, needs these types of media shows to draw the citizens’ attention from the problems the Sandu-Dodon-Nastase Government creates, including increased taxes and fees, increased prices, the annulment of lunch tickets, the stopping of the governmental programs that people have been waiting for.

PDM is waiting for the ordonnance of the General Prosecutor’s Office on the initiation of the criminal file in order to be able to attack it in the court, including on the reason that this decision is illegal from the perspective of the procedure. We are certain that the initiators of this file are not the prosecutors, but the politicians from the governing parties.

We recall that PDM issued on Monday, August 5, a call to the diplomatic missions and international community to report a series of abuses and pressure exerted by the new government, actions that are not in line with the rule of law. Furthermore, we have asked the diplomatic environment to get involved in order to bring back the current government in the constitutional realm.
