Vlad Plahotniuc at the meeting with the US congressmen: „We shall continue implementing reforms and we shall keep going westward”

The DPM president, Vlad Plahotniuc, at the head of the Republic of Moldova’s Government Coalition, continued the series of meetings with US officials in Washington, and had two new meetings – with congressman Michael McCaul of Texas and congressman Joe Wilson of South Carolina.  Both congressmen are members of the United States House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, and congressman Michael McCaul is the chairman of the Internal Security Committee, while congressman Joe Wilson is member of the Committee on Armed Services.

These two meetings have been reserved to discuss the topics concerning national reforms and issues of security of the Republic of Moldova. Congressman McCaul expressed his concerns regarding the Russian propaganda in Moldova and in other European countries, and also voiced support for our country's efforts to combat Russia's aggression.  Moreover, the US official has asserted his strong support for the goal of European Integration of the Republic of Moldova.  Congressman Joe Wilson expressed interest in the latest developments in the Transnistria region, adding that the settlement of the Transnistria conflict is important for Moldova and for its neighbors. Joe Wilson encouraged the completion of the natural gas pipeline linking Republic of Moldova with Romania and also said that he will support our country’s energy projects. He affirmed that he envisions „only a pro-European future” for the Republic of Moldova.

Vlad Plahotniuc spoke to the US officials of the reforms that were carried out in our country – both regarding the public institutions, as well as those regarding the economy and the business environment. He also spoke about the efforts the Republic of Moldova made to link up with the European Union energy network in order to ensure alternative sources of energy supplies, as well as about the recent progress achieved in the Transnistrian dossier. The Government Coalition leader reaffirmed our country’s goal to continue on the European path: „Moldova has a European future. We shall continue implementing reforms and we shall keep going westward”. At the end of the meeting, Vlad Plahotniuc invited the US congressmen to Moldova.

Alongside Vlad Plahotniuc, the PDM Vice-President Andrian Candu and Iurie Leancă, president of the EPPM, also attended at the meetings with congressmen Michael McCaul and Joe Wilson.
