PDM welcomes constructive debate on Moldova in European Parliament
The Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) welcomes the thorough and balanced debate on Moldova which took place in the European Parliament today.
European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid & Crisis Management Christos Stylianides, speaking on behalf of the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, stressed that the EU-Moldovan partnership is fundamentally about improving people’s lives – a sentiment the PDM echoes. As a member of the coalition government, the PDM strongly supports political association and economic integration with the EU.
The Party is committed to delivering wide-scale reforms to ensure that Moldova lives up to European values of democracy and effectively implements the rule of law to fight corruption. We will ensure that the spirit and letter of the reforms are respected by all. We are also determined that progress in our country is based on consensus and compromise. It is only through such an approach that we can guarantee the lives of our citizens will be improved and we will increase growth and jobs as we move step-by-step towards our European destiny.
As several MEPs commented, the true indicator for the success of EU foreign policy in the region will be the achievement of Moldova’s democratic transition.
The PDM strongly welcomes the EU’s continued and constructive support for Moldova and looks forward to a renewed focus on its relations with the Union in the build-up to the Eastern Partnership Summit in November.
